With almost all votes counted, Brazil has a new president: Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. It was not the result I expected, but may God bless him while he works to solve the challenges Brazil faces.

All in all, our country has shown an impressive display of democracy, electing its new president in an ordely, civilized manner. I’m proud to be a Brazilian.
